...well, mostly complete, that is.
Friends, please have a look at the list of ISR staff alumni. There are 787 names on that list, as well as 43 on the list of Wilderness Camp staff alumni.
Twelve years ago I started working on an online list of ISR staff alumni. It was simply a list of staff members, their email addresses, and their AOL Instant Messenger and ICQ handles. This website exists as an extension of that first list.
I know I'm just a dork for this stuff, but I love looking at the old rosters, the old names, trying to imagine what camp was like then, what the campers were like -- everything. The past might as well have occurred on a different planet. I feel like an explorer, free to make up myths around the landscapes that I don't understand.
I hope this list is never complete. That means that summer camp is still happening at Ingersoll. (By the way, who will add the 2010 staff?) However, the past is also incomplete. Nine rosters are completely missing. Others are incomplete. I have posted all of the information that I have. Now, staff, the rest is in your hands.
What's next? Well. Those lists are just names. What's really interesting is the stories behind them. Sometimes camp seems like a creek, a patch of dirt, and a stand of trees, but camp is really the sum of its experiences. I could go on and on. It's an obsession.
Next up: stories from camp. Want to help? Leave a comment. Hearing from you guys and girls is the greatest motivation to keep going.
Glen Phillips, one of the original Wilderness Camp staff members from 1965 (a feat beyond comparison in my book), send me an email a few weeks back. He's looking for a little help finding a few missing staff members from the 1965 staff:
Glen is trying to contact the early staff members to attend the upcoming BSA centennial ISR staff reunion on 10 July 2010. If you can help, please let him know (i.e., contact him via his profile).
Hey, for fun, here's the 1965 staff photo.
